Channel Locks

Lock up those important channels!

Unfortunately, Discord account hacks are not uncommon, they have lead to millions of dollars worth of crypto and NFTs being stolen from innocent community members. However, SecurityBot can help mitigate the impact of an account breach by providing a secondary password for all of your important channels. Lock up your announcements channel, for example, to make sure that even if someone breached your account they wouldn't be able to post fake announcements to scam your community.

Security Done Securely

Obviously, we take security very seriously. All passwords are encrypted with state of the art encryption and stored securely in our database. No SecurityBot team member can ever view your passwords.

Once a Channel Lock has been created, any message sent in that channel will be automatically deleted, regardless of the sender. A Channel Lock must be unlocked with the password before a message is sent. The Channel Lock will lock itself automatically after one message is sent in the channel, or after 30 minutes, whichever comes first.

SecurityBot MUST have Administrator permissions for Channel Locks to work

Create a Channel Lock

To create a Channel Lock enter the create lock command in the channel you want to be locked. You will be prompted with a modal to enter and confirm a password for that channel.

Command: /lock create

Make sure that no one else can see your screen when entering your Channel Lock password. Discord is very limiting on the kind of text fields available, so your password will display in plain text while you enter it in the modal.

Toggle a Channel Lock

To toggle a Channel Lock as locked or unlocked enter the toggle lock command in the channel you want to toggle. You will be prompted with a modal to enter the password for that channel. If the channel is locked at the time of the command, it will then unlock. If it is unlocked, it will lock.

Command: /lock toggle

Modify a Channel Lock

To update a Channel Lock enter the update lock command in the channel you want to update. You will be prompted with a modal to enter the current password for that channel, the new password and to confirm the new password for that channel.

Command: /lock update

Remove a Channel Lock

To remove an existing Channel lock enter the remove lock command in the channel with the Channel Lock you want to remove. You will be prompted with a modal to enter the password for that channel.

Command: /lock remove

Forgot Your Password?

Unfortunately, due to the steps we've taken to ensure your security, the SecurityBot team cannot help you if you've forgotten a Channel Lock password. Please ensure that you store your passwords safely.

It is important to note that even with Channel Locks, if an account is hacked with administrator permissions, they could simply remove SecurityBot from the server. This is why it is vital to also use good general Discord security practices and set up cold admin accounts.
